Alex Reid
From Castle Rock classrooms to aviation analytics, Alex has turned his love of maths into a career supporting a major UK airport.Alex’s journey began at Castle Rock, where he developed a strong interest in Maths, Biology, Computer Science, and PE. His enthusiasm for maths led him to take on Further Maths at A-Level, which helped shape his future studies and career.
“The maths department were really supportive as I challenged myself with Further Maths,” Alex shares. “The biology department also helped a lot—extra revision sessions gave me the confidence to study it as a minor at university.”
After leaving Castle Rock, Alex went on to study Mathematics at Lancaster University, graduating with a First-Class degree and a minor in Biological Sciences. Returning to Coalville, he started his career as a junior data consultant in Loughborough, where he built his skills using tools like Power BI, Power Apps, and SSMS.
Today, Alex works as a Business Consultant / Analyst at Aviation Intelligence Ltd, where he leads data and analytics projects for clients including Heathrow Airport. His role involves creating reports, managing customer relationships, and helping businesses make sense of their data.
“My week usually includes working on different data projects and building Power BI reports for Heathrow,” Alex explains.
Some of Alex’s proudest achievements include earning the King’s Scout Award and graduating with top honours in his degree. His story shows how Castle Rock School’s supportive environment can help students build the skills and confidence they need to succeed in exciting and fast-moving industries.
