Emma Haberman
Inspired by Biology at Castle Rock, Emma pursued medical science — today she works at Oxford as a Junior Research Fellow studying immunology.Emma’s interest in science began at The Castle Rock School, where Biology quickly became her favourite subject. That early enthusiasm has since developed into a successful career in medical research.
After finishing her A-Levels, Emma completed a Medical Science degree at the University of Birmingham. She then moved to Oxford to work as a research assistant in an immunology lab at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM). Her experience there led to a Welcome Trust-funded PhD position at the University of Oxford, where she continued to study immunology.
Emma completed her PhD in 2024 and now works as a Junior Research Fellow and Postdoctoral Scientist at Jesus College, University of Oxford. Her role involves a mix of coding, data analysis, and lab-based experiments, all aimed at answering complex questions about the immune system.
“No two days are the same,” Emma explains. “I spend a lot of time thinking about the best ways to answer specific questions in my project, whether that’s through analysing gene expression data or using techniques like imaging and flow cytometry.”
Emma’s future goal is to develop and lead her own research projects. Among her proudest achievements are completing her PhD and securing her current fellowship — milestones that reflect years of dedication and curiosity sparked during her time at Castle Rock.
