Remembrance Day 2022

Each year, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the UK falls silent in memory of the people who have served and lost their lives in wars around the world, fighting for and alongside the UK. Staff and students at The Castle Rock School have acknowledged Remembrance Day in a variety of ways.

On Friday 11th November 2022, staff and students at The Castle Rock School showed their respects with a two-minute silence, remembering those lost as well as thinking about people around the world who are fighting for a better way of life. As well as the respectful silence, students engaged in a range of educational activities helping them to understand its importance.

During the week leading up to Remembrance Sunday, students from years 7,8 and 9 have worked together across the Art and Design specialisms of Textiles, Food, Design Technology and Art to produce a collaborative piece of work focusing on remembrance and the significance of the poppy.

Inspired by the 2014 Art installation at the Tower of London, students have learnt about the power of collaborative Art and the impact this has as a vehicle for thought, reflection and team work.

Students have learnt to work as a team, understanding that collaborative work is as much about learning to work with others as it is about the end result. This has taken place alongside assemblies with students across the whole week.
